국내 유실·유기동물 구조 건수가 대폭 감소한 반면, 반려동물 등록 수는 367만 마리를 돌파하며 성숙한 반려 문화의 정착을 알렸다.
A culture of more responsible pet ownership is emerging in the country, with the number of rescues of lost and abandoned animals falling over 10% and that of registered pets hitting 3.67 million last year.
농림축산식품부(농식품부)가 발표한 ‘2025년 동물보호·복지 실태조사결과’에 따르면 지난해 누적 반려동물 등록 마릿수는 전년 대비 5.3% 증가한 367만6000마리로 집계됐다.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs on June 29 said this in a 2025 survey of animal protection and welfare, adding that the registered pet figure rose 5.3% from 2024.
구조된 유실·유기동물은 총 9만6000마리로, 전년 대비 10.4% 급감했다. 유기동물 구조 건수는 지난 2019년 이후 꾸준한 감소세를 이어가고 있다. 동물 구조와 보호를 담당하는 동물보호센터는 전년보다 5개소 늘어난 236개소로 파악됐다.
A combined 96,000 lost or abandoned animals were rescued, down 10.4% year on year, reflecting a steady decline since 2019. The country also added five animal shelters that rescue and care for abandoned animals, raising their number to 236.
반려동물 영업장은 총 2만4384곳으로 전년 대비 3.5% 늘었다. 업종별로는 미용업이 44.5%로 가장 많았다. 위탁관리업(23.8%), 판매업(11.4%) 이 뒤를 이었다. 반면 수입업은 11.5%, 판매업은 10.5%, 생산업은 4.5% 일제히 감소했다.
The number of pet businesses reached 24,384, up 3.5%. By sector, pet grooming (44.5%) accounted for the largest share, followed by boarding (23.8%) and sales (11.4%).
Conversely, the figures for pet importers (11.5%), sellers (10.5%) and breeders (4.5%) all fell.
농식품부는 “앞으로도 성숙한 동물복지 문화 조성을 위해 관련 정보를 제공하고, 정책 수립과 제도 개선에 활용할 수 있도록 지속적으로 노력하겠다”고 강조했다.
The ministry said, "We will keep striving to provide relevant information to stimulate a more mature culture of animal welfare and ensure that such data is used for policymaking and improvement of related institutions."
