Prime Minister Han Seong-sook says bilateral economic cooperation with the U.S. is evolving into a "closer partnership" that jointly shapes artificial intelligence (AI), advanced technologies, supply chains, energy and strategic investments, pledging Seoul's support for corporate investment and innovation.

There, she shared the government's vision for raising foreign investment and improving the business environment and discussed how to boost bilateral cooperation.

On the advanced status of bilateral cooperation in economy and investment, the prime minister said, "Economic cooperation between the two countries has recently headed toward a new stage," adding, "While past collaboration focused on expanding trade and investment, we are now entering a closer partnership in which we jointly design initiatives in AI, advanced technologies, supply chains, energy and strategic investments."

She mentioned AI as the top cooperation priority for both countries. "AI isn't merely an individual industry but a 'foundational infrastructure,'" she said. "Innovation is required not only in manufacturing, biotechnology, finance and logistics but also in the very way government administration operates."

On the outcomes of strategic cooperation, the prime minister said, "Korea and the U.S. have launched a partnership to jointly build supply chains in sectors such as semiconductors, shipbuilding, energy and advanced manufacturing."
"We are actively proceeding with strategic investment projects in the U.S. based on the Special Act on the Operation and Management of Strategic Investments between Korea and the U.S. enacted on June 18 last year as well as managing pending tariff and trade issues through close consultations."

In talks with AMCHAM Chairman and CEO James Kim following her keynote speech, Prime Minister Han outlined Seoul's efforts to streamline regulations. "The government is making direct visits to business sites to actively resolve conflicting regulations from the business perspective," she said, noting that AI- and data-driven analyses are being used to identify and tackle irrational regulations.
