올해 1분기 외국인 직접투자(FDI)가 71억 4000만 달러를 기록해 한국 투자 환경을 향한 신뢰가 견고한 것으로 나타났다.

Foreign direct investment (FDI) in the first quarter reached USD 7.14 billion, reflecting strong confidence in Korea’s investment environment.

산업통상부(산업부)는 올해 1분기 외국인 투자(신고 기준)가 지난해 같은 기간보다 0.1% 증가한 64억 1000만 달러로 집계돼 역대 2위를 기록했다고 3일 밝혔다. 실제 투자 유입을 의미하는 도착액은 71억 4000만 달러로 역대 1분기 기준 최고치를 달성했다.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources said on April 3 that pledged FDI reached USD 6.41 billion in the first quarter, up 0.1% year on year and the second-highest figure on record.

FDI received — representing actual inflows — hit USD 7.14 billion, the highest ever for a first quarter.

글로벌 투자 위축과 중동 분쟁 등 지정학적 리스크가 지속되는 상황에서도 FDI 증가세를 유지한 것은 한국의 안정적인 투자 환경이 외국인 투자자로부터 두터운 신뢰를 얻고 있음을 방증한다고 산업부는 설명했다.

The ministry said that maintaining FDI growth despite a global investment slowdown and geopolitical risks such as the Middle East conflict demonstrates strong trust by foreign investors in Korea’s stable investment environment.

특히 반도체, 이차전지 등 첨단 제조업과 인공지능(AI) 데이터센터, 해상풍력 같은 신성장 산업에 양질의 투자가 계속되면서 지난해 역대 최대 실적(360억 5000만 달러)을 견인한 투자 흐름이 지속되고 있는 것으로 분석된다.

The continued inflow is attributed to high-quality investment in advanced manufacturing such as semiconductors and secondary batteries, as well as new growth sectors like artificial intelligence data centers and offshore wind power.

This trend also follows last year’s record FDI of USD 36.05 billion.

투자 유형별로는 글로벌 불확실성 확대 영향으로 그린필드 형 투자 신고액이 전년 대비 19.8% 감소한 37억 4000만 달러를 기록했다. 반면 인수·합병(M&A)형 투자는 53.4% 증가한 26억 7000만 달러로 크게 확대됐다.

By type, pledged greenfield investment fell 19.8% year on year to USD 3.74 billion due to rising global uncertainty. In contrast, mergers and acquisitions (M&A) surged 53.4% to USD 2.67 billion.

업종별로는 서비스업 투자가 43억 3000만 달러로 전년 대비 21.5% 치솟아 1분기 기준 역대 최대치를 기록했다. 이 가운데 금융·보험업이 26억 2000만 달러로 21.2% 늘었다. 유통업(5억 7000만 달러, 43.0%)과 정보통신업(2억 4000만 달러, 183.6%)도 높은 오름세를 보였다.

By sector, FDI in services jumped 21.5% to USD 4.33 billion, the highest ever for a first quarter.

Within this, finance and insurance rose 21.2% to USD 2.62 billion. Retail (USD 570 million, +43.0%) and information and communications technology (USD 240 million, +183.6%) also posted strong growth.

국가별로는 미국이 정보통신, 화학공업, 유통 등을 중심으로 투자가 확대돼 10억 달러를 기록, 전년 대비 20.9% 불어났다. 유럽연합(EU) 역시 화학공업, 전기·가스 분야를 중심으로 투자 증가세를 나타냈다.

By country, the United States increased investment by 20.9% year on year to USD 1 billion, driven by ICT, chemicals and retail. Investment from the European Union also rose, particularly in chemicals and electricity and gas sectors.

산업부는 "대외 환경 불확실성에 맞서 전략 분야를 중심으로 선제적인 투자유치 활동에 나서는 동시에 지역 투자 인센티브를 강화하고 외국인 투자 기업 애로를 해소하는 등 외국인 투자 환경을 꾸준히 개선할 방침"이라고 밝혔다.

The ministry said, “We will proactively attract investment in strategic sectors to counter external uncertainty, while strengthening regional incentives and resolving difficulties faced by foreign-invested companies to steadily improve the investment environment.”
