It is used to indicate that an action in the latter clause is done in another place afterward with the result of an action in the preceding clause that has already taken place.

I made chocolate and then I gave it to my boyfriend on Valentine's Day.

제가 찾는 책이 도서관에 없어서 친구에게서 빌려다가 봤어요.
The library didn't have the book that I was looking for. So I borrowed it from my friend and then I read it.

저는 시간이 없어서 편의점에서 김밥을 사다가 먹었어요.
I didn't have much time. So I bought dried seaweed rolls at the convenience store and then I ate them.
