한국 기술로 최초 자체 개발한 초음속 전투기 'KF-21' 이 1호기 조립을 시작으로 본격적인 양산에 들어갔다. Production of the KF-21, the country's first supersonic fighter developed with domestic technology, has begun with its assembly.
방위사업청(방사청)은 10일 경남 사천시 한국항공우주산업 개발센터에서 'KF-21'의 첫 양산 착수 회의를 개최했다고 밝혔다. 이날 회의엔 국방부, 합동참모본부, 공군, 국방과학연구소, 계약 기업 등 관련 기관이 참석했다.
The Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) on July 10 said it held the launch meeting for the jet at the development center of Korea Aerospace Industries in Sacheon, Gyeongsangnam-do Province. Representatives from related organizations attended such as the Ministry of National Defense, Joint Chiefs of Staff, Republic Korea Air Force and Agency for Defense Development as well as those from contractors.
이번 착수회의는 KF-21을 적기에 공군에 인도하기 위해 개최된 첫 회의로, 항공기 기체, 엔진, AESA 레이다의 생산과 전반적인 사업 계획 발표로 시작됐다. 이어서 작업 공정 관리, 형상 및 품질 관리, 부품 단종 관리 등 분야별 임무와 관련기관과의 협조 사항을 논의했다.
The event covered the timely delivery of the KF-21 to the Air Force, starting with the production of the fuselage, engine and active electronically scanned array radar and presentation of the general business plan. Talks there covered tasks by sector such as management of work processes, management of shape, quality and parts discontinuation, and cooperation with related organizations.
회의에서 한국항공우주산업은 양산 1호기 조립 착공을 기념하는 행사를 개최하고 한국에서 개발한 최첨단 자동화 설비를 공개했다. 자동화 공정 도입으로 조립 과정의 정확도가 높아지고, 생산 효율이 극대화돼 제작 기간 단축에 기여할 것으로 전망된다. 이로써 군에 적기 인도는 물론, 향후 수출 성사 시 생산성을 확보하는 동반 상승 효과까지 기대할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.
KAI also held a groundbreaking ceremony for assembly of the jet's first mass production unit and unveiled state-of-the-art automation equipment developed in the nation. The adoption of automated processes is expected to raise accuracy of assembly and maximize output efficiency to help cut production time. This is expected to lead to timely delivery of the KF-21 to the military and a synergy effect in securing productivity for future exports.
이날 조립에 들어간 KF-21 양산 1호기는 2026년 말 공군에 인도된다. 방사청은 오는 2032년까지 KF-21 120대를 공군에 납품할 예정이다. The first mass-produced KF-21, whose assembly began that day, will go to the Air Force by late 2026. DAPA will roll out 120 units for the Air Force by 2032.
한경호 방사청 미래전력사업본부장은 "우리 독자 기술로 개발한 전투기인 'KF-21'이 드디어 최초 양산에 본격 착수하게 된 것은 국민의 전폭적 지지와 연구·개발자들의 헌신적인 노력 덕분"이라며 "앞으로 KF-21은 우리 영공을 지키는 주력 전투기이자 K-방산의 글로벌 위상을 제고하는 데 핵심적인 역할을 할 것”이라고 말했다.
"The inaugural mass production of the KF-21, a fighter jet developed with our own technology, has finally started thanks to the people's full support and the dedicated efforts of researchers and developers," DAPA's Deputy Minister for Advanced Capabilities Program Han Kyoung Ho said. "The KF-21 will become the leading fighter jet to protect our airspace and play a pivotal role in boosting the global standing of the K-defense industry."
