국립중앙박물관이 올해 국내외 다양한 문화를 소개하는 전시로 관객들을 맞는다. The National Museum of Korea (NMK) plans to attract visitors this year through exhibitions featuring a diversity of domestic and foreign cultures.
윤성용 국립중앙박물관장은 24일 서울 용산구 국립중앙박물관에서 열린 2024년 신년 기자간담회에서 올해 주요 업무계획을 발표했다.
Director General Yoon Sung Yong on Jan. 24 presented plans for major projects this year at a New Year's news conference held at the museum in Seoul's Yongsan-gu District.
우선 6월에는 미국 덴버박물관과 공동으로 북미 인디언들의 삶과 예술세계를 살펴볼 수 있는 ‘북미 인디언의 역사와 문화’ 전시가 열린다. 국내 최초로 인디언의 삶과 예술을 소개하는 전시로 덴버박물관 소장 회화, 복식, 조각, 도자 등 약 130점을 전시한다.
In June in collaboration with the Denver Art Museum of the U.S., the NMK will host an exhibition of the lives and art of Native Americans. This will be the first event of its kind in Korea to feature Native Americans, displaying 130 pieces including paintings, costumes, sculptures, and pottery owned by the American museum.
국립중앙박물관 전시에 이어 부산박물관으로 자리를 옮겨 개최한다. 부산박물관 전시는 11월부터 다음 해 3월까지다. The same exhibition will run from November this year to March next year at the Busan Museum.
7월에는 한·일·중 국립박물관장 회의 연계 특별전으로 ‘동아시아의 칠기’ 전시가 열린다. 동아시아에서 널리 사용된 천연 도료인 ‘옻’을 소재로 한국, 일본, 중국이 각각 독창적으로 발전시킨 칠공예 작품 45점이 소개된다.
In conjunction with a conference of museum chiefs from Korea, Japan, and China, an exhibition of East Asian lacquerware art will be held in July featuring 45 unique works uniquely created by each of the three countries using ott (lacquerware), a widely employed natural dye in East Asia.
11월에는 오스트리아 레오폴트 미술관과 공동으로 ‘비엔나 모더니즘의 탄생’ 전시가 열린다. 19세기 말 비엔나를 중심으로 일어났던 빈 분리파 운동의 영향력과 의의를 조명하는 전시로 그 시기 활동했던 화가들의 작품 120점을 소개한다.
In November, the NMK will host an exhibition on the birth of Vienna modernism jointly with the Leopold Museum of Austria. This event will highlight the influence and meaning of the Vienna Secession movement that occurred in the late 19th century in the Austrian capital by showing 120 artworks by painters from that era.
국외 박물관 한국실을 활용한 한국 문화재 특별전도 계획되어 있다. An exhibition of Korean cultural heritage is planned at the Korean art galleries of museums abroad.
11월 미국 시카고박물관 상설관에서는 ‘한국의 멋과 미’ 전시가 열린다. 종교, 장인, 다기 등 여러 주제로 구성해 한국 미술과 문화의 다양성을 선보인다. 신라 금관, 금제 허리띠 등 국립박물관 소장품 19건 38점이 전시된다.
In November, an exhibition on Korea's taste and style is slated at the permanent exhibition hall of the Art Institute of Chicago. Featuring the diversity of Korean arts and culture by covering themes like religion, craftsmanship, and teaware, the event will display 38 pieces from the NMK's collection including golden crowns and golden belts from the Silla Kingdom.
국립중앙박물관이 지원하는 국외 박물관 한국실 지원 사업의 중장기 거점관인 3개 기관에서는 고(故) 이건희 삼성그룹 회장 기증품 국외 순회전도 열린다. 미국 국립아시아예술박물관(2025년 11월~2026년 1월)을 시작으로 시카고박물관(2026년 3월~7월), 영국박물관(2026년 9월~2027년 1월)에 순회할 예정이다.
An international touring exhibition of art donated by the late Samsung Group Chairman Lee Kun-hee will be held at three leading museums abroad considered the mid- to long-term bases for the NMK's Overseas Korean Galleries Support Program.
The event will start with the Smithsonian's National Museum of Asian Art in Washington (November 2025 to January 2026), the Art Institute of Chicago (March to July 2026), and the British Museum (September 2026 to January 2027).
윤 관장은 “지난해 국립중앙박물관(400만)과 13개 소속박물관 총관람객 1000만 시대를 열어 그만큼 국민들이 박물관에 대한 관심과 기대가 높아졌다”며 “올해 사업을 잘 준비해 더 많은 관람객이 편안하게 관람하고 쉬고 갈 수 있는 박물관이 되도록 하겠다”고 밝혔다.
"The National Museum of Korea (four million) and its 13 affiliate museums saw the opening of the era of 10 million visitors, raising public interest in and expectations for museums," Director General Yoon said. "We will sufficiently prepare for this year's projects to become a museum allowing more visitors to go to comfortably see and rest."
