Yes, when my brother and I were young, our parents had just started their business and were virtually out of the house all of the time. So it was like our grandmother was the one who raised us.

가: 부럽네요. 저는 어렸을 때 할머니가 돌아가셔서 할머니와의 추억이 없거든요. 할머니와는 자주 연락해요?
I’m envious of you. My grandmother passed away when I was little, so I don't have any memories with her. Do you contact her often?

나: 네, 거의 매일 통화하다시피 해요.
Yes, we talk on the phone almost every day.

This expression is used to indicate that some action is actually very close to another action but is not exactly the same. As such, it emphasizes the degree of the actual situation being described by exaggeration.


• 어제는 뭘 잘못 먹었는지 배탈이 나서 하루 종일 굶다시피 했어요.
I must have eaten something bad because I had an upset stomach and practically starved the whole day yesterday.

• 정부는 방치되다시피 한 유적지들을 복원하려는 계획을 발표했다.
The government announeed a plan to restore historical sites which had been virtually neglected.

• 올 상반기에는 부동산 경기가 안 좋아서 아파트 거래가 중단되다시피 했었다.
For the first half of the year, the real estate market was not very good, and the apartment sector was at a virtual standstill.

When this expression is used in a passive sense, the form -다시피 하고 있다 is used in place of -다시피 한다 to indicate a present situation.
• 갑자기 내린 폭설로 이 부근 도로는 마비되다시피 한다. (X)
-> 갑자기 내린 폭설로 이 부근 도로는 마비되다시피 하고 있다. (〇)

• 얼마 전에 난 산불로 인해 요즘 그 지역에는 관광객들의 발걸음이 끊기다시피 한다. (X)
-> 얼마 전에 난 산불로 인해 요즘 그 지역에는 관광객들의 발걸음이 끊기다시피 하고 있다. (〇)

2. When -다시피 is used by itself, it indicates the confirmation of some fact that the listener is already aware of. In this case, -다시피 can be replaced with -듯이.
• 알고 계시다시피 최근 치매와 같은 노인성 질환이 급증하고 있습니다.
= 알고 계시듯이 최근 치매와 같은 노인성 질환이 급증하고 있습니다.

• 지난번에도 말씀을 드렸다시피 이번 공사를 연말까지 차질 없이 마무리해 주십시오.
= 지난번에도 말씀을 드렸듯이 이번 공사를 연말까지 차질 없이 마무리해 주십시오.
