배급사 쇼박스는 오컬트 미스터리 영화 '파묘'가 지난달 몽골을 시작으로 인도네시아, 대만에서 각각 첫선을 보였다고 12일 밝혔다. 오는 14일엔 호주, 뉴질랜드, 싱가포르, 말레이시아, 브루나이 15일 북미, 영국, 아일랜드, 베트남, 20일 필리핀, 21일엔 태국까지 개봉을 확정했다. 홍콩과 마카오, 캄보디아 관객은 다음 달 영화를 만난다.
The movie's distributor Showbox on March 12 said the film made its international debut last month starting in Mongolia and later in Indonesia and Taiwan. Its release schedule is March 14 in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia and Brunei; March 15 in North America, the U.K., Ireland and Vietnam; March 20 in the Philippines; and March 21 in Thailand. It will premiere next month in Hong Kong, Macao and Cambodia.
북미 배급사 웰고USA(Well Go USA)는 "'파묘'는 전혀 예상치 못한 반전을 주는 영화" 라며 "북미의 오컬트 팬조차 영화가 선사하는 반전에 매료될 것"이라고 전했다. Well Go USA, the film's distributor in North America, hailed the movie's unexpected twists and said it will captivate occult genre fans on the continent.
독일 배급사 스플렌디드(Splendid)는 "'올드보이' 스타 최민식을 필두로 훌륭한 배우진이 만들어 낸 한국의 초자연적인 오컬트 영화"라고 소개했다. Splendid, the film's distributor in Germany, called it a Korean supernatural occult film with an outstanding cast led by actor Choi Min-sik, star of "Oldboy" (2003).
장재현 감독의 '파묘'는 거액의 돈을 받고 수상한 묘를 이장한 풍수사, 장의사, 무속인에게 벌어지는 기이한 사건을 담았다. 최근 국내에서 누적 관객 수 800만 명을 돌파하며 흥행 가도를 달리고 있다.
Directed by Jang Jae-hyun, "Exhuma" is about uncanny events that occur after a geomancer, a mortician and a shaman relocate a strange grave for a large fee. The film in Korea has sold over eight million tickets and counting.
'파묘'는 지난달 15일부터 열흘간 독일 베를린에서 열린 제74회 베를린영화제 '포럼' 섹션에 초청돼 월드 프리미어로 공개되며 세계적인 관심을 입증했다.
Its invitation to the Forum section of the Berlin International Film Festival of Germany, which kicked off its 10-day run on Feb. 15, also grabbed global attention as its screening was its world premiere.
이와 관련, 쇼박스는 "베를린영화제 공식 상영과 수입사를 대상으로 한 마켓 상영 이후 '파묘'의 영화제 초청과 판권 구매 문의가 이어지고 있다" 면서 "인도네시아에서는 개봉 후 역대 한국 영화 흥행 1위에 등극하며 신드롬을 불러일으키고 있다"고 밝혔다.
"The film has kept receiving inquiries about invitations to film festivals and purchase of distribution rights after its official screening at the Berlin International Film Festival and market screening for importers," Showbox said. "It's now a sensation in Indonesia as the highest-grossing Korean film there since its release."
한편 '파묘'는 오는 4월 24일부터 5월 2일까지 열리는 제26회 우디네극동영화제 경쟁 부문에 공식 초청됐다. This year's Udine Far East Film Festival of Italy, which runs from April 24 to May 2, has also officially invited "Exhuma" to its competition section.
