전주국제영화제 한국경쟁 본선 10편 발표 - Jeonju International Film Festival lists 10 entries for Korean Competition

제25회 전주국제영화제에 선보일 한국경쟁 부문 영화 10편이 발표됐다. This year's Jeonju International Film Festival (JIFF) in Jeonju, Jeollabuk-do Province, has announced the list of 10 films for its Korean Competition section.

전주국제영화제 조직위원회는 지난해 11월부터 올 1월까지 진행한 공모 결과 역대 최다 작품인 134편이 출품돼 이 가운데 10편의 작품을 한국경쟁 부문 영화로 선정했다고 지난 22일 밝혔다. JIFF's organizing committee on March 22 said it selected the 10 for the category from a record-high 134 entries received between November last year and January this year.

이번에 뽑힌 10편의 작품은 '나선의 연대기'(김이소), '담요를 입은 사람'(박정미), '미망'(김태양), '양양'(양주연), '어텀 노트'(김솔), '언니 유정'(정해일), '엄마의 왕국'(이상학), '은빛살구'(장만민), '통잠'(김솔회), '힘을 낼 시간'(남궁선)이다.

The finalists are "A Chronicle in Spirals" by director Kim Yiso, "Blanket Wearer (Park Jeongmi), "Mimang" (Kim Taeyang), "My Missing Aunt" (Yang Juyeon), "Autumn Note" (Kim Sol), "Sister Yujeong" (Chung Haeil), "Mother's Kingdom" (Lee Sanghak), "Silver Apricot" (Jang Man-min), "Deprivation" (Kim Solhae and Lee Dojin), and "Time to Be Strong" (Namkoong Sun).

선정작과 관련, 한국경쟁 부문 심사위원들은 "한국경쟁 부문에 선정된 10편의 영화는 그 어느 해보다 알차고 튼실하다"고 평가했다. The jury for the category said on its selection, "The 10 films selected for the Korean Competition are more solid and robust than in previous years."

이어 심사위원들은 "여성에 관한 서사는 올해도 강세를 보였다" 면서 " 감독의 성별이나 장르와 무관하게 한국경쟁작 대다수는 영화 중심에 여성이 존재했고 그들의 내면을 관통하는 경우도 많았다"고 출품 경향을 언급했다.

"Narratives about women were strong again this year," it added on the trend of the works. "Regardless of the director's gender or genre, the majority of Korean Competition entries had women at the center and often presented penetrating glimpses at their inner selves."

올해 한국경쟁 부문에선 전주국제영화제의 산업 프로그램인 전주프로젝트가 성과를 거두며 그 존재 의미를 증명했다. 지난해 전주프로젝트의 워크인프로그레스 작품인 '미망', '담요를 입은 사람', '양양' 등 세 작품이 이번 한국경쟁 부문에 뽑혔다. 특히 '미망'은 지난해 토론토국제영화제에서 상영되기도 했다.

In this year's Korean Competition, JIFF's industry venture Jeonju Project proved its worth with the inclusion of three films from last year's private showcase program Work in Progress: "Mimang," "Blanket Wearer," and "My Missing Aunt." All three were entered into the competition, with "Mimang" screened last year at the Toronto International Film Festival.

해당 작품들을 만나볼 수 있는 제25회 전주국제영화제는 오는 5월 1일부터 10일까지 전주 영화의 거리를 비롯해 전주시 일대에서 열린다. The 10 finalists will be screened at this year's JIFF, which is slated from May 1-10 at Jeonju Movie Street and other locations around the city.
