“핑크퐁과 아기상어 한국 대모험”···해문홍 영문 단행본 발간 - Baby Shark, Pinkfong explore Korea in KOCIS-published book

세계적으로 큰 인기를 얻고 있는 캐릭터 핑크퐁과 아기상어가 한국 문화 홍보에 나선다. The globally popular children's characters Pinkfong and Baby Shark are helping promote Korean culture abroad.

문화체육관광부 해외문화홍보원(해문홍)은 전 세계 어린이들에게 한국 문화를 소개하기 위해 영문 단행본 '핑크퐁과 아기상어와 함께하는 한국 대모험(LET’S EXPLORE KOREA with Pinkfong and Baby Shark)'을 발간한다고 13일 밝혔다.

The Korean Culture and Information Service (KOCIS), an affiliate of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, on Dec. 13 announced its release of the English-language book "Let's Explore Korea with Pinkfong and Baby Shark" to promote Korean culture to children worldwide.

이번 영문 단행본은 7~11세 아이들의 눈높이에 맞춰 핑크퐁, 아기상어와 함께 한국을 탐험하는 형식으로 쉽고 재미있게 구성했다. 100쪽 내외 분량으로 한국 문화유산, 음식, 계절 등을 소개하는 5개 주제 총 18편을 수록했다.

Geared for children ages 7-11, the book has two characters exploring Korea in both fun and easy-to-understand ways. Spanning just under 100 pages, it has 18 chapters under five themes including Korean cultural heritage, food, and seasons.

해문홍은 단행본과 연계해 주요 내용을 소재로 핑크퐁과 아기상어가 등장하는 국악풍 동요 뮤직비디오도 14일 공개했다.
On the occasion of the book's debut, KOCIS on Dec. 14 released a music video featuring both characters singing a children's song in the style of gugak (traditional music) based on the main content.

뮤직비디오에서는 유튜브 137억 회 이상의 조회 수를 기록한 ‘핑크퐁 아기상어 체조’ 선율에 민요 아리랑을 더해 어린이들이 쉽게 따라 부를 수 있게 편곡했다.
The video adds the folk song "Arirang" to the melody of the song "Pinkfong and Baby Shark's Workout," whose music video has attracted over 13.7 billion views on YouTube, a piece easy for children to sing along with.

해문홍은 영문 단행본을 재외 한국문화원을 비롯한 재외공관, 주한 대사관 등을 통해 세계 각국 학교와 도서관 등에 배포할 예정이다. 뮤직비디오는 해문홍 누리집(www.kocis.go.kr), 정부 대표 다국어 포털 코리아넷(www.korea.net), 핑크퐁 아기상어 영어 유튜브 채널(https://www.youtube.com/@Pinkfong/videos) 등에서 볼 수 있다.

KOCIS will distribute the book to schools and libraries around the globe through Korean Cultural Centers and the government's diplomatic missions and embassies abroad.

The video is available on KOCIS' official website (www.kocis.go.kr), the government's multilingual portal (www.korea.net), and Pinkfong and Baby Shark's official English-language YouTube channel (www.youtube.com/@Pinkfong/videos)

김장호 해문홍 원장은 “전 세계 어린이들이 한국 문화를 소개하는 영문 단행본과 뮤직비디오를 통해 한국에 대한 호기심과 친근감을 형성하길 바란다”며 “앞으로 반응을 살펴 영어 외에 다른 언어로도 단행본 등을 발간할 계획”이라고 밝혔다.

"We hope for children around the world to develop curiosity about and familiarity with Korea through the English-language book and music video that promote Korean culture," KOCIS Director Kim Jangho said. "Going forward, we will monitor the response and publish the book in languages other than English."
