네덜란드를 국빈 방문 중인 윤석열 대통령이 12일(현지 시간) 반도체 협력 지원을 약속했다.
President Yoon Suk Yeol on Dec. 12 pledged support for semiconductor cooperation with the Netherlands during his state visit to the European country.
대통령실에 따르면 윤 대통령은 이날 빌렘 알렉산더르 네덜란드 국왕, 이재용 삼성전자 회장, 최태원 SK그룹 회장 등과 함께 벨트호벤에 위치한 ASML 본사를 방문해 한국, 네덜란드, 유럽의 주요 반도체 기업 및 기관들과 간담회를 가졌다. ASML은 초정밀 반도체 생산에 필수인 극자외선(EUV) 노광장비를 전세계에서 독점 생산하는 기업이다.
The Office of the President said President Yoon visited the headquarters of ASML, a Dutch maker of key chip equipment, in the town of Veldhoven with Dutch King Willem-Alexander, Samsung Electronics Executive Chairman Lee Jae-yong and SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won. The president also held a meeting with leading semiconductor companies and organizations in Korea, the Netherlands, and Europe.
ASML is the world's exclusive producer of extreme ultraviolet lithography (EUV) equipment, which is essential for ultra-precision manufacturing of chips.
윤 대통령은 간담회 모두발언을 통해 “한국 기업들과 긴밀히 협력해서 반도체 산업의 혁신과 글로벌 공급망 안정화를 위해 노력해 주시기를 기대한다”고 당부하고 “한국은 정부의 반도체 초강대국 달성 전략에 따라서 삼성전자가 360조원, SK하이닉스가 120조원을 투자하여 세계 최대의 반도체 클러스터를 조성하고 있다”고 밝혔다.
In his opening speech at the meeting, President Yoon said, "We look forward to close cooperation with Korean companies to innovate the semiconductor industry and stabilize the global supply chain."
"In Korea, Samsung Electronics is investing KRW 360 trillion and SK Hynix KRW 120 trillion to create the world's largest semiconductor cluster under the government's strategy of becoming a semiconductor superpower."
이어 “오늘 이루어지는 ASML과 삼성, SK하이닉스 간의 투자 협력에 대해 매우 기쁘게 생각한다”며 “ASML과 삼성은 향후 1조원을 투자해 차세대 반도체 제조 기술 R&D 센터를 한국에 건설하고 또 ASML과 하이닉스 반도체 생산과정에서 전력 소비를 획기적으로 줄이고, 수소 등의 자원을 재활용하는 친환경 공정을 함께 개발하기로 했다”고 전했다.
"I am very pleased with today's investment cooperation among ASML, Samsung, and SK Hynix," he added. "ASML and Samsung will invest KRW 1 trillion to open an R&D center in Korea for next-generation chip production technology, while ASML and Hynix will jointly develop a green process that dramatically cuts power consumption in the semiconductor production process and recycles resources such as hydrogen."
또한 “내년 2월에 ASML의 주도로 한국과 네덜란드의 대학원생과 엔지니어가 함께 참여하는 한국-네덜란드 첨단 반도체 아카데미가 개설된다”며 “한국 정부는 이번 협력 프로젝트의 성공을 위해 양국 정부 간 직접 소통 채널을 강화하고, 필요한 모든 지원을 다할 것”이라고 말했다.
"With ASML at the helm, a cutting-edge semiconductor academy between Korea and the Netherlands will be opened in February next year with graduate students and engineers from both countries participating."
"The Korean government will boost direct communication channels between the governments of both countries and provide all necessary support to ensure the success of this cooperation project."
간담회 직후 양국은 반도체 분야에서 총 3건의 양해각서(MOU)를 체결했다. 이후 윤 대통령은 외국 정상 중 최초로 ASML의 클린룸을 방문해 차세대 EUV 장비 생산 현장을 시찰했다.
After the meeting, both countries signed three memorandums of understanding on semiconductors. President Yoon then visited ASML's "cleanroom," the first foreign head of state to do so, to inspect the manufacturing of the latest EUV equipment.
