이사할 거예요. 그래서 집을 찾는 중이에요.

Grammar Focus:
This expression is used with a noun that indicates the content of an action and means that the subject is in the process of performing the action. It corresponds to ‘in the process/middle of or 'currently doing’ in English. After a noun, 중 is added, and after a verb, -는 중 is added to the verb stem.



A: 왜 이렇게 길이 막혀요? Why is there so much traffic?
B: 백화점이 세일 중이에요. 그래서 길이 막혀요.
The department store is having a sale. That's why there’s traffic.

A: 여보세요? 한국 무역회사입니까? 김 과장님 좀 부탁합니다.
Hello? Is this the Korea Trade Company? I’d like to speak with Section Chief Kim.
B: 김 과장님은 지금 외출 중이십니다. 오후 5시에 들어오실 겁니다.
Section Chief Kim is currently out of the office. He should be back at 5 P.M.

A: 운전면허증 있어요? Do you have a driver's license?
B: 요즘운전을 배우는 중이에요. 다음 주에 운전면허 시험을 봐요.
 Recently, I’ve been learning how to drive. I’ll take a driving test next week.

Notes:
-는 중이다 and -고 있다 are used in similar ways. However, while -고 있다 has no restrictions regarding what subjects it can be used with, -는 중이다 cannot be used with subjects representing natural phenomena.
• 비가 오는 중이에요. (X) -> 비가 오고 있어요. (〇) It’s raining.
• 눈이 오는 중이에요. (X) -> 눈이 오고 있어요. (〇) It's snowing.
• 바람이 부는 중이에요. (X)-> 바람이 불고 있어요. (〇) The wind is blowing.
